Spend 48-52 in the area around where you zone in and the northern areas of the zone. The final two zones drop Glowing Reis, which gives you good armor from 85-90. The drachnid are probably the lowest level mobs in the zone, but it gets hard to pull singles and they have a lot of HP. You won't be able to use it until 10 or 15 respectively, but you don't need it before then. The north wall of the citadel is a combination of giants, undead, drolvargs, and cockatrice. This zone is very confusing to get into from the "front door", but if you're coming here at 48 then it's the best place to go. Also the mercenary will cost the same amount he would to the level that you shrouded to. At no point do I stop for AA's until I am level 110, so there will be no notation about AA grinding. With an 85 druid can pl 20-65 in about 6 hours with the druid un-grouped and DS'ing whilst PL'd toon does at least of one point of dmg. At 49, get to the very top of the crystal ramps and go through the fake wall and then head up to the upper kobold camp and kill these guys to 52. In other words that means all those levels that you can't find groups, you can use him for. Additionally, the mobs in Wall of Slaughter have a larger agro radius than the Plane of Fire mobs which helps. They can take a long time, but with a little research and experience you can get the times down on her missions as well. Loot isn't spectacular but with a decent group, you will shred mobs and the exp will flow like water. At around 91, head to the southern portion of the zone and start killing critters and ghosts. Kill everything here until 68ish. At 53 start heading down into the middle of the zone. Your tank merc can solo any reds from levels 1-60. Note: This guide is based primarily on the Hot Zone Wall of Slaughter. Currently, most returning players are forced to molo (solo with a merc) from level 1 to 80+. Right click anywhere on this box and select "Puller" as your Main Roll. As an alternative around 73, you can kill the pixies around the guild hall port in. It's also a MONSTER of a run as Jungle and Trak's Teeth are enormous zones. The doombugs normally come in packs of 2 or 3 and aren't social with crows or scarecrows, who normally are single pulls but are social with each other. They are all undead. There are 2 nameds plus a named treant you can easily access if no one else is killing them. I know there are a LOT of mobs you can access off this area, but have no idea what nameds if any are common here. Also something to keep in mind is if you complete the themes out of order you will not unlock the mercenaries from the theme's below it. Once inside, just follow your map and keep heading back until mobs start getting close to your level. BEST (68-78): Dragonscale Hills (68-78)(PoK>Steamfont Mountains>Dragonscale Hills) - SEE NOTE ON MERCENARIES BELOW FOR WAYS TO BOOST THEIR EFFECTIVENESS A LITTLE. Fewer mobs for AA/Exp grinding but still very nice and slightly easier for a small group. So finding a camp could be tough depending on your chosen servers population and the hour of day. Bastion of Thunder (62-68)(PoK>Plane of Tranquility>Torden, Bastion of Thunder) - The giants and bees of Thunder are excellent exp. Fire, it depends, the stronger DS doesn't outbalance it's weak tankage. At 55-62 move to very center area of the zone and kill bigger shades and vampires. They do not have much in the way of HP, but can hit hard. Riftseeker's Sanctum(69-78)(Guild Hall>Buy Chipped Shard of Slaughter>TP to Wall of Slaughter>Muramite Proving Grounds>Riftseeker's) - The mobs here hit hard, have lots of HP, heal, and resist spells, but the experience is awesome. For an AFK camp, 100 AA a day isnt too bad. It should open and let you swim through to The Hole zone. Select the first HA he gives you, Into the Hills. As aforementioned if you are a Free to Play(F2P) player you will only be able to select an Apprentice Mercenary. So make this the exception to my disdain of HA leveling. Roughly 80% of the mobs are rootable and headshottable so this is a really nice zone for AAing with a ranger. You'll usually be fine pulling 1 or 2 Whites or above, any more and the merc has a small chance of running. 13-28 Estate of Unrest (PoK>Butcherblock Mountains>Dagnor's Cauldron>Unrest) - This is a good place for undead killers, but in my opinion the run out to it is too far and the exp is better in Blightfire. At 35, push into the area around frenzied ghoul and up toward Ghoul Lord. If you aren't saving for something in particular, consider taking these. There are three total HAs he will give you. That said, some of the zones have been made hot zones. Burn AE (On some): This stance causes your mercenary to focus primarily on damage with AE spells, Always assisting the main assist, Passive: Your merc will not attack anything. Once you have some level 30 Mercenaries, you will want to level your future Mercenaries while grinding through tasks. When you suspend your mercenary the button will change to Unsuspend. For a quick example, an Apprentice Tier V mercenary caps out at a 90% rez where as a Journeyman Tier I mercenary will have a 96% rez. These levels will come steadily and you will very likely never be overwhelmed. Stay near the entrance until 49-50 then move toward the "disco" areas until about 52. Chelsith Reborn (98-102)(Guild Hall>Buy Shadowed Sand of the Twilight Sea>TP to Twilight Sea>The Scarlet Desert>The Grey>Chelsith Reborn or Once you do attunement quest from Shard's Landing, Guild Hall>TP to Shard's Landing>Portal to Chelsith Reborn) - I had never tried this place until recently, and I think it's awesome. Crafting Mercenaries costs 100 Coins (Rare), 300 Coins (Epic), or 500 Coins (Legendary). Erudin also has a LOT of undead which are very concentrated in a few areas, making Paladin swarming much easier as well. I realize that I didn't add directions, just general sense of direction. The Foundation is one of them and might be worth heading to. Loping Plains(75-80)(PoK>Steamfont Mountains>Loping Plains) - At 75 come here and head around past Bloodmoon Keep. Mercenaries are the answer to Everquests "grind" and Must-Group to level. To level up your Mercenaries, simply take them on bounties - they get XP for each fight you beat. At that point start pushing through the shopkeepers to the south or go up the ramp to kill the masters and grandmasters. They are however allowed into LDoN's. Wall of Slaughter (64-68)(Guild Hall>Buy Chipped Shard of Slaughter>TP to Wall of Slaughter) - Even with this not being a Hot Zone anymore, in this level range with a group this place is pretty great experience. I came back and my toons went from level 3 to level 10!!! You should easily average about 25% of an AA for each of the light blue mobs while at the South or North Camp. These can quickly take you to 64-65. I honestly think it's kinda trash because either you're killing "relatively weak" classified mobs or the creatures just have too many HP, but from 30-35 it's ok. With hundreds and hundreds of zones to choose from, and classes with wildly different abilities and skills, there is no perfect way to level. The merc trio can easily handle content to level 80 with you solidly playing your main toon (and dragging along the other two characters). Ah yes. Finally the yeti caves are a decent camp as well, offering two named yeti and if no one is doing the cockatrice then those two nameds as well. Theres an important point to be made about this guide and why its successful. There are numerous groups in Empires of Kunark, but lets say you're not feeling up to that yet. The cost adds up very very quickly otherwise. Once you get going quickly with the HAs from Gribble, you can throw in some of the HAs from Skulk. A NOTE ON MERCENARIES AT 85: At 85, to assist players utilizing a Heroic Character (a character which is automatically leveled to 85 for you and given subpar but serviceable gear, a mount, and other goodies. You can go higher, but it isn't really worth it IMO. They are undead and you will reap them with Slay Undead/Ward Undead line spells. BEST IF SOLO AND 58-62: 48-62 - Grieg's End(PoK>Nexus>Netherbian Lair>Dawnshroud Peaks>Grieg's) - This zone is a pretty long haul out, and has a couple of pretty rough pulls to get into the zone if you're here at the lower end of the range. RUN EVERYONE INDIVIDUALLY OR CALL OF HERO THEM IF YOU HAVE A MAGE. (Intelligence level, Upkeep and all that). The key issue is that there are gobs of wandering mobs. He couldn't have made it THAT easy. The merc will cast a rez (When out of combat) to anyone in your group who is dead. They respawn pretty quick and are higher level than most of the zone, so better exp longer. You want the repops to be single pulls and not a three pull, so the timing of your agro and kill cycle on the first way is important. Stay away from the air giants though. THIS GUIDE ASSUMES YOU ARE PAY TO PLAY. The first camp is in the large room in the bottom right side of the map. You can use the find command (CTRL + F) to locate such vendors. Everything is pretty spread out and it's dead simple to pull singles or just wander and kill. The mob level goes up to 92-94. ALTERNATIVES: 30-35 Goru'Kar Mesa (PoK>Blightfire Moors>Goru'Kar) - Almar used to suggest this place as a prime place to level. Kill them all. Just be careful as everything has a huge aggro range and the pathing can mess your world up. A: When you shroud the mercenary is suspended, when you have enough money to pay for the mercenary you may unsuspend him. Lots of good loot and the spider camp and kobold village are pretty easy. That is how GMs check. Most of these zones are hotzones and no matter which set of zones is up at the time, one of them will be a hot zone. The best place in this zone is the hobgoblins, which are directly left of where you zone in, at the north end of the canyon. While I didnt test this strategy in The Bloodfields, I think that zone also has a fast respawn rate of 10 minutes and 40 seconds, so this strategy should also work there if you can find a similar camp. At 56, head toward the bottom. There are three nameds you can kill here for a good variety of loot. This makes it so any new player can jump in and catch his friends or others as quickly and painlessly possible. This will easily take you to 56-57. With EverQuest free to play, returning players can easily add additional accounts. At 65 I like to head up to the second levels and kill the higher level guys there.
